The Hurricanes came and went

At the end of last season, Seattle had 4 former Lethbridge Hurricanes on their roster. After today’s deal, the Thunderbirds have zero. Let’s take a quick look at how they all got here and where they have gone since:

F Sam Mckechnie and F Jaimen Yakubowski were acquired from Lethbridge in a trade deadline deal that saw Seattle send F Riley Sheen, F Carter Folk and a 2015 3rd rounder in return.

F Russell Maxwell was sent to Seattle by Lethbridge in exchange for F Seth Swenson, F Michal Holub and a 2014 4th round pick. That trade happened the day before the trade deadline.

D Adam Henry was added to the Thunderbirds roster in early October last season. He came over for D Griffin Foulk who was sent to the Hurricanes.

This year

Maxwell retired from the WHL at the end of last season.

Yakubowski was traded to the Moose Jaw Warriors before the season along with a conditional 7th round pick in 2016 and Seattle obtained a 3rd round pick in next year’s Bantam Draft.

Mckechnie got sent to the Saskatoon Blades and in return the TBirds get a conditional 6th round pick in next year’s Bantam draft.

Henry was also traded to Saskatoon but Seattle got a player back, 17-year old defenseman Turner Ottenbreit.

So, as we’ve done before, let’s trace the history of all these deals.

History

Mckechnie/Yakubowski

F Jacob Doty was added to Seattle’s protected list and came to the team in 2009. In the 2012 offseason, Doty was sent to the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for Sheen.

F Robbie Newton was drafted by the TBirds in the 4th round of the 2008 Bantam Draft. Newton was traded in October 2009 to the Swift Current Broncos for D Scott Ramsay. January 2011 saw Ramsay sent to Medicine Hat in exchange for a 4th round pick in the 2011 draft. That pick was used on Folk.

F Marcel Noebels was selected by Seattle in the 2010 CHL Import Draft. in January 2012, he was traded to the Portland Winterhawks for Swenson and 2 1st round Bantam picks (Kolesar and Elder).

G Daniel Cotton was listed by the Thunderbirds and joined the team in 2010. He was traded to Everett in 2012 for a 2014 6th round pick. That 6th round pick was sent back to Everett along with Seattle’s 2014 4th round pick for Foulk.
